Way to recognize healthy Chick

Neat and clean chick (DOC)
Chick weight at least 35 g.However , if 40 g is good.
Agile chicks with chirping sound
Sharp and bright eyes of chick
Chicks are equivalent in shape and intact form
The leg structure of chick is normal
Chicks are stress less and free from asphyxia
Chicks are alert for surrounding environment
The anus and naval region of chick is dry.

Brooding

After hatching egg the nourishment of DOC artificially by giving proper temperature is called brooding.

Importance of Brooding

After hatching from hatchery The DOC is unable to maintain their body temperature. They are capable to maintain their body temperature within 2-3 weeks of age.It is mentioned that, a new born chick contains around 4 g of unabsorbed yolk.If there is proper brooding , feed and water management then the yolk is absorbed in the body within 4-5 day’s.If there is any neglency in management the yolk is infected by different types of germ and thus body weight gain is hampered.We should remember in mind that proper brooding is prerequisite for a profitable farm.
